Mariusz Kamiński was transported from the prison to a civil hospital in Radom – “Gazeta Wyborcza” reported on Monday evening. A former MP conducts a hunger protest. The “Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners” profile on the X platform – run by associates of convicted politicians – reported after 9 p.m. that Kamiński was being examined because his health had “worsened”. The information about his stay in the hospital was confirmed by Kamiński’s former deputy, Stanisław Żaryn. Wirtualna Polska wrote before 11 p.m. that Kamiński returned to the prison after examination.
As reported by “Wyborcza”, Kamiński was transported on Monday from the prison where he is serving his sentence to the Masovian Specialist Hospital in Radom. He was taken to the hospital emergency department.
The Radom remand center has its own hospital, but – explains “GW” – it has limited capacity and when an inmate’s condition drops below a certain level, he is transferred to a civilian hospital.
Kamiński has been conducting a hunger protest in prison for almost two weeks. According to the findings of “Wyborcza”, the decision to take him to hospital was made due to low sugar levels and low heart rate.
The “Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners” profile on the X platform – run by associates of convicted politicians – reported after 21 that Kamiński was hospitalized “due to a rapid deterioration of his health” and “his condition is serious.” “The minister’s relatives are waiting for information from the doctor. Tests are currently underway,” the entry said.
Kamiński’s former deputy Stanisław Żaryn in a recording published on social media after 22 confirmed the information that the politician was taken to hospital. He said that “the situation was serious and worried doctors.”
Before 11 p.m. Wirtualna Polska reported – citing its sources – that Kamiński would not spend the night in a civilian hospital. After checking his sugar level, he was to be returned to custody.
Kamiński’s son: his father has diabetes, we are afraid that his condition will worsen
On Monday, Kacper Kamiński, the son of the convicted politician, spoke on wPolsce.pl television about his father’s health condition. – He is leading a grueling hunger protest. For now, his condition isn’t too bad, although he has diabetes, so we’re afraid it could get worse at any moment. There are different opinions – one says that it is life-threatening, the other that the condition is good. There are two opinions now from prison, he said.
He added that “every day of fasting can be life-threatening.” – We are afraid as a family, it is a traumatic experience for us – he said.
Prison Service about the procedure
The Prison Service does not provide information about specific inmates.
In a message sent to a TVN24 reporter, the Central Board of the Prison Service explained that “if a doctor employed in the prison decides that for medical reasons, e.g. the need to perform tests that cannot be carried out in a prison hospital, one of the convicts should be transported to the hospital located outside the premises of the unit, then a decision is made to transport the inmate.
“During his stay in a medical facility located outside the prison, the inmate stays under the convoy of Prison Service officers. After completing the necessary medical procedures, the prisoner returns to the prison. This procedure is standard action of the Prison Service in similar cases,” we read in the release.
What were Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik convicted of?
In 2007 CBAwhich he headed then Mariusz Kamiński (Maciej Wąsik was his deputy), organized a provocation that was intended to attack the then Minister of Agriculture, Andrzej Lepper. The suspected agents of the Bureau were to offer officials a bribe of several million zlotys for the de-agriculture of a plot of land in Masuria. Due to the leak, no money was transferred and the CBA operation ended in failure. As a result, Lepper was dismissed by the then prime minister Jarosław Kaczyński. The political earthquake led to the collapse of the PiS-Samoobrona-LPR coalition and to premature electionsas a result of which the PO-PSL coalition took power.
Judge Anna Bator-Ciesielska, who announced the final judgment in the case of Kamiński and Wąsik in December 2023, said that their actions years ago, when they headed the CBA, “were far from” the standard of operation of law enforcement agencies within the framework of operational control and provocation. . – The activities undertaken by the defendants described in the judgment were not only illegal (…) They were not activities aimed at detecting crimes, but rather creating the crime – said the judge.
