Mariusz Krukowski will take up the position of deputy executive director of the Swiss-Polish Constituent Assembly of the World Bank Group in Washington “in mid-March”, the Ministry of Finance informed the business editorial office of tvn24.pl. Previously, this position was held by the former president of TVP, Jacek Kurski.
Ministry of Finance at the end of January this year. announced that by the decision of the Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański, Governor of the World Bank, Mariusz Krukowski will represent Poland in the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank). However, it was not known when Krukowski would take up his new position.
“On January 18, 2024, Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański asked to nominate Mariusz Krukowski as deputy executive director. Mariusz Krukowski will take up the position in mid-March 2024.” – the ministry announced on Wednesday in a response sent to tvn24.pl.

We asked the Ministry of Finance why it was decided to choose Krukowski.
“Mariusz Krukowski was chosen due to his education, qualifications, international experience and professional career. Thanks to his excellent substantive preparation, economic knowledge, experience in cooperation with international financial institutions (recently he was an advisor at the European Investment Bank), experience in cooperation with the European Union (headed the Budget and Finance Section at the Permanent Representation of Poland to the EU, supported Poland’s chief negotiator for the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020, represented Poland’s interests during negotiations on the revision of the Stability and Growth Pact and the creation of the Banking Union), as well as a long-term official and diplomatic career and knowledge of three foreign languages, Mariusz Krukowski will significantly strengthen the office of the executive director and our representation in the World Bank,” said the ministry.
What will be Mariusz Krukowski’s tasks? “Executive Directors at the World Bank are responsible for conducting the current activities of the Bank, make decisions on projects financed in member countries, decide on management issues of the bank and its policies, and represent the interests of the countries of their constituent members,” explained the Ministry of Finance.
Jacek Kurski’s successor
Mariusz Krukowski will replace Jacek Kurski in his new position.
At the end of December 2023, Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański announced that he had received a letter from the World Bank confirming the termination of cooperation with Jacek Kurski. The candidacy of the former president of TVP for the position of Alternate Executive Director of the Swiss-Polish Constituent Assembly of the World Bank Group in Washington was submitted by the President of NBP, Adam Glapiński. Kurski took up his position in December 2022.
The Polish-Swiss constituent assembly of the World Bank, alongside Poland and Switzerlandinclude: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, TajikistanTurkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Apart from the six largest shareholders (United States,Japan,China,Germany,France, Great Britain), the remaining 183 member states are grouped into 24 constituent assemblies.
From November 2022, the Executive Director representing the Polish-Swiss Constituent Assembly is the representative of Switzerland – Dominique Favre.
