The guests of “Kropka nad i” commented on the detention of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik by the police. As independent senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski said, “the president knew that both were convicted by a final judgment.” – His surroundings also knew – he emphasized. – If all these findings are confirmed (…) that the purpose of inviting the two men to the meeting was actually to make it difficult to arrest them, then the president actually violated the regulations – said Barbara Dolniak (KO).
Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik were detained. The Warsaw police announced on the X platform: “Referring to the previous message, we would like to inform you that in accordance with the court order, the persons concerned by the instructions have been detained.”
Meanwhile, journalist Robert Zieliński from the tvn24.pl portal reported that “both former Law and Justice MPs were detained by police officers on the premises of the Presidential Palace.”
These politicians stayed in the palace for many hours that day. They appeared there at the president’s invitation at one of the celebrations.
Kwiatkowski: the president knew that both of them were convicted by a final judgment
The case was commented on in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 by an independent senator, former Minister of Justice and former Prosecutor General Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and MP Barbara Dolniak from the Civic Coalition.
Kwiatkowski cited a fragment of Article 239 of the Penal Code. It states in paragraph 1 that “whoever obstructs or frustrates criminal proceedings by helping the perpetrator of a crime, including a fiscal crime, to avoid criminal liability, in particular whoever hides the perpetrator, covers up the traces of a crime, including a fiscal crime, or serves a sentence for the convicted person, shall be subject to punishable by imprisonment from 3 months to 5 years.
– The president knew that both were sentenced by a final judgment. His surroundings also knew. In my opinion, officers, for example the SOP, who accompanied you in the courtyard of the Chancellery of the President, will provide explanations on this matter – he said.
– If it turns out that they were told to protect both gentlemen in a way that would make it impossible for public officials to perform their duties, then yes, I have no doubt that a provision of criminal law in this respect was violated – he noted.
Dolniak: If all these findings are confirmed, the president has violated the regulations
– I cannot imagine a situation in which the president of a European country could behave in a way that violates the Penal Code – said Barbara Dolniak (KO).
– If all these findings are confirmed, because this obviously requires establishing (…) that the purpose of inviting the two men to the meeting was actually to make it difficult to arrest them, then the president actually violated the regulations. But we need to check this fact, she emphasized.
