For over 200 years, we have been helping each other in the fight for freedom, for democracy and the rule of law. Today, however, for the first time in our history, we are united by the same freedom – said US ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski in an interview with TVN24. When asked whether these values were also important for the business community, he replied that “if there is anything that investors are looking for, it is certainty of the legal system.” – And that law triumphs over force – he added. The diplomat also referred to Polish assistance to Ukraine.

United States Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski talked on Wednesday with TVN24 journalist Jacek Niedziałek during the Economic Forum in Karpacz. A day earlier, at this forum, Brzezinski received the “Man of the Year 2023” award.

“Values are what brought Poland closer to America, and America to Poland”

The ambassador was also asked why values such as democracy, freedom and the rule of law are so important. – Values are what brought Poland closer to America, and America to Poland. What has brought us closer for over 200 years – he said.

According to him, “for over 200 years we have been helping each other in the fight for freedom, for democracy, for the rule of law.” – Today, however, for the first time in our history, we are united by the same freedom – he added. As he said, over 10,000 American soldiers are stationed in Poland to “defend these values, to protect democracy, to defend the rule of law.” Brzezinski said it is the basis of America’s engagement around the world and “the cornerstone of our relationship with Poland.”

When asked whether these values were also important for the business community, the diplomat replied that “if there is anything that investors are looking for, it is the certainty of the legal system.” – And that law triumphs over force. They want to avoid bureaucratic systems and arbitrary decision-making. Many investors are interested in Poland, he said.

In his opinion, Poles “are very hard-working and very loyal.” – This is a very attractive combination for American investors – he said, adding that “it is something they are also looking for in Poland.” – But of course we also need the rule of law. Naturally, we also need legal certainty so that such investments can reach their goals, he emphasized.

Brzezinski pointed out that “we see new companies appear in Poland all the time.” – Take, for example, Intel corporations and their investments in Wrocław to build a semiconductor factory here. This is an investment that any country in the world could be looking at. And what I really like about what Intel announced is that it’s not just an investment to produce semiconductor parts and materials, but it’s an investment in the local community. This is an investment in the University of Wrocław, in the supply chain, in logistics. This is exactly the kind of American corporate-civic footprint that I particularly like, he added.

– I am very optimistic about Poland. This is an opportunity to attract more American investments, Brzezinski said.

Brzezinski on the role of Poland

The diplomat also talked about Polish help Ukraine. As he emphasized, “Ukrainians are suffering unimaginably.” – And Poland, America and over 50 other countries are united in support for them – he added.

He noted that “the president (Joe) Bidenthe US government are deeply, deeply impressed by the sacrifice and how Polish families accepted refugees from Ukraine.” – And as President Biden said to Poles when he was here: thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for what you do. We see this. We are all in this together. Ukrainians will triumph. It will take time, but Ukrainians will win. And Poland’s role is noticed by us, it is noticed by the whole world. This is something truly impressive, he declared.
