Rescuers searching the rubble after an explosion in a tenement house in the center of Marseille in the south of France found the bodies of the last wanted people. The tragedy happened in the night from Saturday to Sunday.

As a result explosion in Marseille, which took place on the night from Saturday to Sunday, two buildings were destroyed and a third partially collapsed. The cause of this tragic event has not yet been determined, but – according to French media – it could be a gas explosion.

Five people were hospitalized on Sunday with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. About three hundred people from four nearby buildings were evacuated.

After the buildings collapsed, the death toll rose

On Wednesday evening, the AFP agency reported that rescuers found the bodies of the last two people considered missing. This brought the death toll from the accident to eight. “Marseille is in mourning today,” Mayor Benoit Paya said.

More than 100 rescuers worked on site.
