On Wednesday, November 15, between 6 and 8 a.m., Warsaw Commuter Railway trains will not run. The train drivers’ union did not agree to the company’s management board’s proposal for a salary increase from April next year.

As we reported on tvnwarszawa.pl, on Wednesday, November 15 WKD train drivers announced a warning strike. They demand a pay increase of PLN 1,000 gross this year (with compensation from July 1), and another PLN 800 gross from January 1, 2024. On Tuesday, last-chance mediations took place between the company’s management board and the Trade Union of Railway Drivers in Poland and NSZZ ‘Solidarność’ Mazowsze Region. The talks ended in failure.

“We do not agree to the management board’s proposal”

– The employer did not submit any proposal to increase the basic salary this year. He proposed an increase in remuneration of PLN 500 from April 1 next year – said Sławomir Centkowski, vice-president of the Trade Union of Railway Drivers, in an interview with tvnwarszawa.pl.

So there was a clear discrepancy between the two sides. – The trade union is demanding an increase this year. It is flexible as to the amount and date of the increase. However, “Solidarity” is able to accept a one-off payment and agree to an increase in remuneration from April 1, 2024 – explained Centkowski.

– Train drivers are the lowest paid employees of the WKD company. Therefore, we do not agree to the management’s proposal – added the representative of the train drivers.

The trains will stop for two hours

This means that there will be a strike on Wednesday, which may cause paralysis in the morning rush hour. After 6:00 a.m. WKD trains will stop at the nearest stop or station. They won’t start until 8:00.
