They placed advertisements on a well-known website for renting non-existent accommodation places in tourist regions. The police detained seven people, three were temporarily arrested. So far, the data of 212 victims has been established.

At the end of August, police officers from the Kielce department of the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime, with the support of other CBZC officers, detained seven people suspected of committing numerous Internet frauds in Mazovia, Silesia and Pomerania. The investigation in this case is supervised by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Kraków.

The criminal activity involved posting false offers for renting accommodation in holiday resorts on a popular advertising website. As confirmation of the rental, the fraudsters took advance payments to bank accounts, from which they withdrew money at ATMs using quick payment codes.

Allegations of organized crime, fraud and money laundering

“The detained people operated in an organized criminal group. During the arrests, the officers seized computer equipment and ICT media, which will be subject to further detailed analysis. A total of 422 charges were brought against seven people in the case, including those relating to an organized criminal group, fraud and money laundering. 212 victims were identified. “- says the police in a statement.

Arrest for three suspects

The detainees were interrogated at the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Kraków. For three of them, the prosecutor submitted to the District Court in Kraków a request for temporary arrest for a period of three months, which the court agreed to.

The suspects face a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. The case is of an ongoing nature and evidence will continue to be collected to clarify all circumstances related to the criminal activity.
