Officers of the Central Police Investigation Bureau detained another five people suspected of participating in an organized criminal group involved in subsidy extortion. The estimated amount of fraud is up to PLN 23 million. There are already 42 suspects in the case and a total of 110 charges have been brought against them – said the spokeswoman for the Central Bureau of Investigation, Sub-Inspector Iwona Jurkiewicz

The spokeswoman said that the circumstances of the case were being investigated by police officers from the Warsaw Directorate of the Central Police Investigation Bureau and prosecutors from the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw.

They extorted funds paid from subsidies. Detentions in two voivodeships

– The findings of the investigation show that members of an organized criminal group extorted funds paid in the form of subsidies from the Polish budget, as well as from the European Union budget, through the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture. According to the officers, investment costs were inflated by issuing unreliable documentation that was important for obtaining subsidies, the content of which did not correspond to the actual costs incurred as part of the investments being implemented – explained Sub-Inspector Jurkiewicz.

On Tuesday, CBŚP police officers carried out an operation in two voivodeships: Masovian and Świętokrzyskie, where they detained five people. – The suspects were brought to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, where the prosecutor charged three of them with participation in an organized criminal group, as well as fraud in relation to property of significant value, and two of them were charged with aiding and abetting in committing this fraud. The estimated amount of fraud is up to PLN 23 million, the spokeswoman further said.

Assets worth over PLN 34 million were secured

As she recalled, such crimes are punishable by imprisonment of up to eight years. In addition, suspects face the forfeiture of items and benefits derived from crimes or their equivalent. – Currently, assets belonging to them with a total value of over PLN 34.6 million have been secured, in the form of shares in the company and real estate, i.e. houses, apartments, industrial facilities and agricultural plots – said Sub-Inspector Jurkiewicz.

The spokeswoman for the Central Bureau of Investigation concluded that there were 42 suspects involved in the entire investigation, who were charged with a total of 110 charges, and that property worth over PLN 83 million was seized. The matter is of a developing nature.
