About 10 thousand people – such employment in PKP Cargo is expected to be replaced by Marcin Wojewódka, acting president of the company, from November 1. Railway workers are protesting against this on Tuesday, August 3, blocking the tracks in Katowice after 8:00 a.m. A group of over 100 people stood on the railway line running through the city center at Floriana Street. The protest lasted until 10:30 a.m.
“At 10:30 am the movement trains at the Katowice railway junction has been resumed. The section between the Katowice and Katowice Zawodzie stations has been unblocked. The situation on the rail network will stabilize. By 10:30, 22 trains were delayed for 405 minutes due to the track blockade” – we read on PKP Facebook.
Railway workers protest in Katowice. They blocked the tracks in protest against layoffs at PKP Cargo
– We have received dramatic appeals for help from PKP Cargo and PKP Cargotabor employees who are to be laid off en masse work. Today we celebrate the 44th anniversary of the signing of the Jastrzębie Agreement. Instead of going to the celebrations in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, we decided to take part in this spontaneous protest. To support the people who need it the most today “Solidarity” – said Dominik Kolorz, head of the Silesian-Dąbrowa “S”, after the start of the protest.
Marcin Wojewódka in an interview with “Rzeczpospolita” said that the bankruptcy administrator had already approved “the lists of people selected to part with the company.”
The layoff process itself will last until the end of September. Employment contracts will be terminated by the end of October, because we will be applying a shortened, one-month notice period
– said the Voivode.
Changes at PKP Cargo. Not just group layoffs
The acting president of PKP Cargo reminded that the company's recovery actions are advanced, in addition to group layoffs, organizational changes are being carried out, and real estate-related matters are being sorted out. He added that the final recovery plan is being prepared by the administrator and his team. In his opinion, the document will be ready in the fall of this year. Then it will be submitted to the court and approved by it.
I am convinced to #MakeCargoGreatAgain
