Matthew Perry’s autopsy was completed on Sunday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed in a statement to People. The magazine notes that the register of deceased persons states that the cause of the actor’s death has been “deferred”, which means that the case is still under investigation. This status is given to cases in which the cause of death cannot be determined during an autopsy and is displayed until additional tests are completed. Currently, the services are waiting for the results of the toxicology report, which may take up to several weeks. The results will help determine whether any substances contributed to the 54-year-old’s death.

Perry, 54 died on Saturday. The L.A. Fire Department told People that crews arrived at his residence at 1 p.m. 16:07. It was reported that the unconscious actor was found in the jacuzzi by a bystander. Firefighters who arrived at the scene pulled him from the water and pronounced him dead. It was confirmed that the actor died before the arrival of the services.
According to unconfirmed reports from TMZ, before his death, Perry played pickleball, a sport similar to tennis but played on a smaller court, for two hours. After returning home, he was supposed to contact his assistant. He was supposed to be the person who found the unconscious Perry after arriving at his house. The investigation into the actor’s death is being conducted by the Los Angeles Robbery and Homicide Unit. At the moment, the services do not suspect that third parties contributed to his death. No drugs were found at the scene. According to the Los Angeles Times, prescription drugs were found and toxicology tests were ordered.

On Sunday, his family released a statement regarding Perry’s death. The actor’s relatives wrote that “they are devastated by the tragic loss of their beloved son and brother.” “Friends” co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane and executive producer Kevin Bright also issued a statement. “We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by the death of our beloved friend Matthew,” they wrote.
Matthew Perry was mainly known for his role as Chandler Bing from the cult series “Friends”. In November 2022, his autobiography titled “Friends, Lovers and the Big Scary Thing.” In it, the actor described, among others: his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction.
