A group of high school graduates will be able to learn the results of their secondary school-leaving exams earlier than their peers. These are people who apply to foreign universities – Swedish or Danish, where the time to submit documents expires a few days before the announcement of the results of the final exams in Poland.

The Ombudsman’s office received an application related to this year’s deadline for announcing the results of the final exams, which was set for July 7. The applicant argued in it that this deadline deprives graduates of Polish secondary schools of the opportunity to participate in recruitment for studies in Denmark, where the deadline for submitting documents has been the same day, July 5, for many years. A similar situation is to be observed in the case of universities in Sweden. Therefore, the Deputy Ombudsman, Stanisław Trociuk, submitted an inquiry in this matter to the director of the Central Examination Commission, Marcin Smolik.

The first response from the CKE indicated that the matura exam schedule is determined “taking into account many variables, including the number of candidates taking individual exams in a given calendar year, the school year calendar, as well as the organizational capabilities of regional examination boards (…)”, therefore “It becomes impossible to take into account the deadlines for recruitment to universities in other countries, especially since these deadlines are also not uniform.” CKE stressed then that this year “it does not see the possibility of changing the schedule”.

After another inquiry from the Ombudsman on Monday, another response from the CKE appeared on the Commissioner’s website. It indicates that ‘taking into account the existing situation, the directors of CKE and OKE took joint action decision to transfer to all high school graduates (…), who have applied or will apply to the OKE with an appropriate documented application confirming application to a university in Sweden or Denmark, letter with information about the results of the matriculation examination obtained by an interested person, with the hope that a given Danish or Swedish university will consider such a solution sufficient.

According to CKE information, 13 e-mails have been received so far with an application for a secondary school-leaving certificate before July 7, 2023 due to the need to submit documents in the recruitment process for a university in Denmark or Sweden.
