This year's final exams will begin on Tuesday, May 7. On that day, high school graduates will take a written exam in Polish at the basic level. Krzysztof Obrębski, deputy director of the Jan Kiliński School Complex No. 31 in Warsaw, when asked on TVN24 whether it was a good idea to study for the final exam at the last minute, advised only to repeat the readings.

The session of written secondary school leaving examinations will last from May 7 to May 24. The oral examination session will take place from May 11 to May 25. On Tuesday morning there will be a written exam in Polish at the basic level.

Krzysztof Obrębski, specialist teacher, deputy director of the School Complex No. 31. Jan Kiliński in Warsaw was asked on Friday on TVN24 whether it was a good idea to study for the final exam at the last minute.

As he said, “we have two groups – those who study before the high school final exams and those who give up because, rightly, they emphasize that they had four years to do so, or five years in the case of technical secondary school.” – However, these two groups have something in common, they say that it is worth learning – he added.

Obrębski advised only to repeat the readings before the Polish language exam. – Even go to the Internet and search to find details – he added.

He mentioned the oral exam in Polish at the basic level. He reminded that two questions should be drawn. – They need to be developed enough for the committee to be satisfied. And what's even better is to just talk a lot. I think that this exam will definitely be passed, and not only by 30 percent, if our students' verbalism reaches the highest levels – he said.

– I wish all high school graduates not to forget the language, because it is also extremely important and necessary – he said.

Matura 2024. Compulsory exams

About 263,000 graduates of this year's general secondary schools, technical schools and second-cycle vocational schools will take the exams. Students from earlier years will take the exams together with them.

A high school graduate, regardless of whether he or she takes the Matura exam according to the old or new formula, must take three compulsory written exams at the basic level: in Polish, mathematics and a foreign language. Graduates from schools or classes with the language of instruction of national minorities also have a written examination in their native language at the basic level.

All this year's graduates must also take two oral exams: in Polish and in a foreign language. High school graduates from schools for national minorities must also take an oral exam in their native language.

Graduates must also take one written exam at an advanced level (in the case of a modern foreign language, at an advanced or bilingual level), i.e. an exam in the so-called an additional or elective item. Those interested can take up to five more advanced level exams.
