The local government of Mazovia, together with the police, is carrying out a campaign of marking dangerous bathing areas. – This year, another four were added to the list of “black water points”. Thus, there are currently as many as 125 such places on the map of the region – says Marta Milewska, spokeswoman for the Marshal’s Office of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship.

In 2021, there were 38 drownings in Mazovia. – For comparison, in 2020 58 people drowned in our region, which means that we are dealing with a downward trend. The most common causes of drowning are bravado, recklessness and alcohol. In addition, those who often relax by the water forget about the basic safety rules and use wild bathing sites that are not intended for this – the spokeswoman says in a press release on this subject.

It is best to choose a guarded bathing area

– Holidays are a special season. We have more free time, and taking advantage of the beautiful, sunny weather, we like to relax by the water. However, it is worth remembering to use common sense when choosing a bathing beach and choose only safe, guarded and appropriately marked places. Our life and health are the most importantKatarzyna Bornowska, voivodeship councilor, underlines in the announcement, chairman of the Complaints, Proposals and Petitions Committee at the Sejmik of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship

Since 2009, the self-government of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship in cooperation with the Provincial Police Headquarters in Radom and the Warsaw Police Headquarters has been conducting a preventive action consisting in marking dangerous places, the so-called black water spots. Characteristic black and yellow signs warn about swimming in such places and its dire consequences.

We are before the vacation begins. Therefore, we have two months of relaxation by the water ahead of us. Remember to choose safe places for summer bathing. Don’t drink alcohol before getting into the water. Let us be guided by the slogan: you drank, do not swim – points out Commissioner Justyna Stanik-Rybak from the Prevention Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters based in Radom.

How to help a drowning person?TVN24

How to help a drowning person?

The council advises what to do when we see a drowning person. “Before we start acting, we should first consider whether we have the appropriate capabilities – both physical and equipment. In the case of rivers such as the Vistula, we absolutely cannot rush to help without equipment to protect us. Otherwise, we may suffer ourselves. seeing a drowning person, first call 112 and call the appropriate services, but if there is a larger group of people and we can protect ourselves in some way, e.g. we have a rope, we can try to save the drowning person. We enter the water at the shore. Then we are sure that we are able to return safely, because we know that someone will bring us to the shore “- we read in the instruction from the local government of Mazovia.

– Remember never to shake hands with a drowning person. Better to use a stick, clothes, bottle – something we can let go of. Otherwise, we ourselves may be pulled into the water and, as a result, not only will we not save the injured, but we will find ourselves in a life-threatening situation and we will need help – emphasizes Paweł Panfil, WOPR rescuer in Piaseczno.

“When the victim is already on the shore, we put him on his back on a hard surface on his back and check if he is conscious and if he reacts, for example, to the voice. If he does not react, one should: open the respiratory tract of the victim and check if he is breathing by placing one hand on his forehead. and the other under the chin and tilting his head back; lean over his face and try to feel the breath, watching if his chest is moving; if he is not breathing – take 5 breaths and start compressing the chest with 30 firm compressions (clasped hands in the middle of the chest) chest) to a depth of 5-6 cm; then take 2 breaths and repeat 30 chest compressions (we repeat the action until the ambulance arrives or until the victim regains consciousness) “- the office describes in a press release.
