Mazovia. Gaming machines. Broken illegal gambling group

Officers of the Masovian Customs and Tax Office and policemen from the Central Police Investigation Bureau broke up a group that organized gambling on illegal slot machines. 31 devices and the money inside were secured.

Justyna Pasieczyńska, a spokeswoman for the Tax Administration Chamber in Warsaw, reported that the group had been operating in the Mazowieckie and Świętokrzyskie voivodships since 2019. As a result of searching more than a dozen locations where illegal gambling was practiced, officers of the Masovian Customs and Tax Office seized gaming machines, mobile phones and accounting and financial documentation.

Charges and arrest for five people

– The activities in the case had been conducted for many months and resulted in the arrest of five people. Three detainees were charged with participating in an organized criminal group, including two – directing this group and organizing illegal gambling. Two detainees are facing responsibility for laundering money from crime, Pasieczyńska informed.

The court applied a preventive measure in the form of pre-trial detention in relation to the detained. For the alleged acts, the suspects face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

As Justyna Pasieczyńska recalled, the penalty for each illegally owned slot machine is PLN 100,000. Such a financial penalty may be incurred not only by their owner, but also by the person who leases or rents the premises where the vending machines are installed.
