An Audi driver caused a three-car collision in a parking lot and fled to an apartment. The police entered the premises with the help of a fireman's boom. The escapee had almost 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system.

The officer on duty at the Sierpc police station was notified of a collision of three cars at one of the car parks in the city centre. – The reporting party reported that the perpetrator abandoned the vehicle and fled into an apartment building. The police quickly identified the apartment where the fugitive could have been. No one opened the front door, but the balcony was open. They entered the apartment using a fireman's lift – Senior Asp. Surprised by the sight of the police, the 42-year-old man was detained and taken to the police station. A sobriety test showed that he had almost 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. After sobering up, he was charged with driving while intoxicated, to which he admitted.

For the crime of driving under the influence of alcohol (above 0.5 per cent.) is punishable by: a fine imposed in daily rates depending on income or a penalty of restriction of liberty, or a penalty of imprisonment for up to three years, as well as a ban on driving vehicles (all types or specific categories) for a period of three to 15 years. The court may also order the obligation to pay a cash benefit to the Fund for Aid to Victims and Post-Penitentiary Aid, in the amount of PLN 5,000 to PLN 60,000.

If a drunk driver will cause an accidentin which there are serious injuries, will be imprisoned for a minimum of three years; if there are fatalities, the perpetrator could face up to 20 years in prison.

For violating a court ban on driving faces a penalty of up to five years in prison.
