mBank – preliminary result for 2021

mBank initially estimates that the consolidated result in 2021 is negative and the net loss amounted to approximately PLN 1.2 billion – it was announced in the press release. The bank decided to increase the provision for legal risk related to the portfolio of foreign currency loans.

The Management Board of mBank announced in a statement on Friday that due to the bank’s decision on January 21, 2022, the legal risk related to CHF mortgage loans recognized in the fourth quarter of 2021 amounted to PLN 2.006 million. Out of this, the amount of PLN 1.010 million may be allocated to potential settlements with holders of Swiss franc loans.

The Management Board of mBank also announced that the preliminary estimates show that the consolidated result of mBank SA Group in 2021 is negative and the net loss amounted to approximately PLN 1.2 billion. “Despite the negative result, the capital and liquidity ratios remain significantly above the regulatory requirements” – assured the management board.

Swiss franc loans – settlements

In early December 2021 mBank announced that it is starting a pilot of CHF settlementswhich will last for the next three months. The solution is to convert the current loan into zlotys, the difference is to be shared by the bank with the customer in half. The pilot is to cover 1.3 thousand. contracts.

At the end of November, PKO BP announced that the bank’s clients submitted more than 16,000 agreements on Swiss franc loans to mediation. The information provided at that time showed that nearly a thousand people signed settlements.

BNP Paribas Bank Polska has been conducting a pilot of settlements on foreign currency housing loans, but has not made the final decision on offering settlements. About the Santander Bank Polska is testing settlements with Swiss franc borrowers the bank’s president, Michał Gajewski, also informed.

In the case of Bank Pekao, the vice-president Wojciech Werochowski informed in an interview with Rzeczpospolita at the beginning of November that a pilot process of settlements with franchise holders was underway on a small group of clients. – After summing up the pilot project, we will be ready to decide whether and in what form and scale we will conduct settlements – explained Werochowski. Bank Millennium announced at the end of September that it had concluded over 4,000 settlements with Swiss franc borrowers.
