For the last few weeks, fans in Szczecin have been buzzing about the potential sale of the club. Alex Haditaghi, a Canadian of Iranian origin who had previously worked in Greek Kavala, was interested in buying the team. And although at one point it seemed that Pogoń would actually be sold, the talks broke down in recent days.
What's next for Pogoń Szczecin? There will be a city lifeline
Haditaghi reportedly resigned due to “uncertainties regarding transparency and the management of the club”. During the talks, it turned out that Pogoń's debt was almost twice as large as previously declared and amounted to approximately PLN 50 million. And now the club is in trouble. Recently, there has been information about problems with paying salaries and bonuses – the new owner could solve them.
“Super Express” learned further details about the unsuccessful sale of the club. According to the newspaper, the debt of the inhabitants of Szczecin amounts to PLN 53 million. PLN 2 million of this amount constitutes arrears to football agents from the last two years. Doubts are also raised about the high amounts that the club spends on organizing meetings and cleaning the stadium.
The hope for Pogoń is supposed to be… politicians. According to “SE”, they are the ones who are supposed to guarantee the club help that will help the club survive the most difficult period.
“According to our informant, the city of Szczecin and politicians supporting the club are to provide a lifeline to the club and president Mroczek. For 2025, Pogoń is to receive an amount of PLN 4 million (although there were three planned), and its payment may be transferred to the account in January.
