Over PLN 281 million from the national reconstruction plan will go to six medical universities in the country. Money will be allocated to investments related to the modernization and retrofitting of didactic facilities in connection with increasing admission limits for medical studies.

Six universities applied for co -financing investments in the KPO competition. According to the Ministry of Health, all applications have been positively evaluated and obtained a recommendation to provide support.

The money will go to:
- Jagiellonian University in Krakow
- Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń
- University of Opole
- Rzeszów University
- University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn
- University of Zielona Góra
The support granted reaches amounts from PLN 17.6 million to PLN 64 million.
Among the three universities that obtained 64 million zlotys support is the Jagiellonian University. The money will be allocated to the expansion of the Jagiellonian University Medicum medical campus. A new didactic facility will be built there, which will include, among others, laboratories, practical science rooms or augmented reality rooms. About three thousand people will work there and study there. The total cost of the investment is over PLN 76.5 million.
– We waited impatiently for this decision. Now we have very important and difficult tasks ahead of us regarding the negotiations of the contract and, which may be the most difficult, to meet the deadlines for the implementation of the investment to fit within the dates specified in the national reconstruction plan. We hope that the Polish government will negotiate their extension with the European Commission. The rate is tens of billions of zlotys in various investment areas – comments in the information published on the university's website prof. Maciej Małecki, Vice -Rector of the Jagiellonian University for Collegium Medicum.
A dentistry center will be built in Toruń
The most expensive investment is planned by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Its total value amounts to almost PLN 106.5 million, and the amount of funding from KPO is PLN 64 million.
– The main goal of this project is to adapt and develop the Collegium Medicum didactic infrastructure, enabling an increase in the number of students in the field of medical and start education in a new medical and dentist. The implementation of five comprehensive and complementary investment tasks planned as part of the project is a direct response to the most urgent needs of CM, UMK, related to limited possibilities of increasing the number of students admitted – says Dr. Patryk Tomaszewski, a spokesman for the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in an interview with tvn24.pl.
– The university intends to spend the largest part of expenses for investments related to the creation of an additional teaching space, including the construction of a dentistry center with an area of over 4.6 thousand square meters. Investments related to improving the quality of education were also planned, in particular in the aspect of practical skills by exchanging outdated and buying new specialized equipment for the needs of the CMK Medical Simulation Center – adds Dr. Patryk Tomaszewski.
The third university, which obtained PLN 64 million in funding, is the University of Rzeszów. The University of Opole will receive PLN 50 million, the University of Zielona Góra PLN 21.6 million, and the University of Warmia and Mazury PLN 17.6 million. The total amount allocated under the KPO for the implementation of this competition was PLN 348 million. Therefore, about PLN 67 million remained in the system.
