On Monday, at 1 p.m., a conference of the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, began on the subject of “the current situation in health care”. Healthcare workers have been protesting in front of the prime minister’s office since Saturday.

The conference, which takes place at the Ministry of Health, is broadcast on TVN24 and on the Internet TVN24 GOand on tvn24.pl we report it live.

  • A press conference with the participation of Minister Adam Niedzielski has ended.

  • Niedzielski on the salaries of nurses: When adopting solutions in the act, which has been in force since July, we were guided by the formal level of competence related to education. The higher the education, the higher the minimum wage upon entering the profession.

  • Niedzielski on vaccinations in schools: About 30 percent of children were vaccinated before the start of the school year.

Niedzielski: The fourth wave is inevitable. She is already there. We will be looking at the dynamics of infection growth.

  • Niedzielski asked about the development of the pandemic: The trend towards an increase in the number of infections has jumped to a higher level since the beginning of September. With August’s growth of 20-25 percent, we have rescaled the weekly dynamics to 50 percent.

  • Niedzielski: There is now room for discussion on how to design the wage path towards 7 percent of GDP. Let’s talk later about what we can do next.

  • Niedzielski: It is completely incomprehensible to make demands that are meant to block the discussion. The aim should be to solve the problem, not to look for a reason why dialogue cannot be held.

  • Niedzielski answers the question about meeting the protesters: This meeting is to be a working one, discussing individual parameters. This is not the moment when the prime minister should be present. At the moment, I am conducting this dialogue.

  • Niedzielski: I urge you to solve problems in the conversation by using arguments, not shouting.

  • Niedzielski: We have scheduled talks with paramedics tomorrow. I hope that these talks tomorrow will be an incentive to improve dialogue and solve problems. Problems are solved at the table, in discussion, not by protests.

  • Niedzielski: In presenting these calculations, I invite the representatives of the protest committee again to tomorrow’s meeting.

  • Niedzielski: On Saturday, I presented detailed estimates of the cost of the demands made by the protest committee. The total value of these demands is PLN 100 billion.

  • Niedzielski: The most important challenge is to fill the staff shortages. These are not topics that can be solved overnight.

  • Bromber: We are aware that money is very important in health care, but this discourse cannot be reduced to money alone.

  • Bromber: Among the protesters, it is said that staff shortages are limited by limited human resources that determine the problems we face. There have been and will be efforts to increase places in medical faculties.

  • Deputy Minister of Health Piotr Bromber: Healthcare is an area in which there have always been great emotions. These emotions were accompanied by a lack of trust. We want to rebuild this trust. We are open to dialogue and conversation with everyone.

  • Niedzielski: The minister will have such a specialization, his work is to be dedicated to dialogue with all professional groups, but also with patients.

  • Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski: We have appointed a new deputy minister to deal with the most pressing issues from our point of view. I am talking about social dialogue and human resources development.

  • A press conference of the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, has started.

  • The National Protest and Strike Committee for Healthcare Workers has eight demands. They include, among others immediate amendment of the act on the method of determining the minimum wage; real increase in the valuation of benefits, lump sums and the so-called ambulances, as well as the employment of additional administrative and support staff, and the introduction of employment standards depending on the number of patients. The Committee also calls for, inter alia, providing medical professions with the status of a public official and creating a system of protecting employees against verbal and physical aggression of patients; the introduction of sick leave after 15 years of professional work, as well as the enactment of laws on laboratory medicine and the profession of a paramedic.
