A simple application, small stories, great emotions. The Warsaw Uprising Museum launched an action under which young people are to record memories of the last generation, which World War II remember.
May 8 is 80 years since the end of World War II. On this occasion, the Warsaw Uprising Museum prepared “Remembrance Factory”, a nationwide campaign to record the last witnesses of those events. The Centrum Digital Memorial Archives will be operating already websiteand a tool to fill it with a simple application. The museum encourages everyone, but above all young people, to record war stories, great -grandmothers and great -grandfathers, neighbors and neighbors, and extended family members. It is not about armed actions or great politics, but the consolidation of banal events, ordinary scenes, which for some reasons have been remembered by these people, and accompanying emotions.
Social archive of memories. Idea
As the director of the Warsaw Uprising Museum Jan Ołdakowski reminded during the Tuesday press conference, the museum from the beginning of its existence recorded memories of participants and participants of the Warsaw Uprising. Several hundred reports were recorded in the Museum of Speered History. Then civil witnesses of the uprising from 1944 were also recorded.
– Suddenly we noticed that there is still a third group that no one was doing. We began to think about something that we called “Memory 3.0”, which is interest in the memories of children – he talked about the genesis of Ołdakowski's action. As he noted, people who were children during the war “” do not have material for a book or one and a half hours documentary film. ” “But they have something very valuable for themselves, a few traumatic stories that have become part of their identity,” he added. He compared these individual memories to the material souvenirs of Warsaw families from the Warsaw Uprising – a few, but important, treated as relics.
– That is why we decided to establish a social archive of memories, a specific crowdfunding action, call for helping all people to save together a very important part of their memory for today's 90 -year -olds – he explained.
See in your great -grandfather. Emotions
Deputy Director of the Museum Dariusz Gawin noticed that in addition to the documentary value, the action also has a very important social aspect with which emotions are associated.
– Memory is very important to build a community of values and emotions. Common remembering tolerates time and space restrictions. Elders become close to us because we see them as young, we recognize them in their stories ourselves, we can identify with them. The moment of recognizing yourself in this message is crucial, decisive – explained Gawin.
He noticed that the memory was much more difficult than a trinket. – Memory is a process, it is an effort, it is a meeting with another person, it is a conversation, it is an established relationship. It is important that memory is an element of continuity and effort that we make together – the subject of the deputy director deepened.
Dariusz Gawin argued that although 80 years have passed since the surprise of World War II (four generations), it remains an event that objectively shaped our world, looking at the borders of states or the appearance of the cities in which we live.
– This is the greatest historical events that witnesses are still alive among us. They are witnesses who were 80 years ago several years ago. When the oldest and youngest generation mets a specific form – it is full of emotions. It is not about great politics or great events, but simple things in which we can find ourselves – added Gawin.
The gene appreciates the family the most. Values
But before museums ordered a spectacular application, they decided to check what the young generation (generation Z) is actually.
– In today's culture, we do not think about young people and do not say well: clumsy, oversensitive, lazy, very materialistic. Pictures show young people as benefit of life, focused on themselves, selfish, still playing – cited Klaudyna Kamińska, research director at Y.Lovers. But this image has little to do with reality. – These are clichés, myths, stereotypes, current codes 30-40 years ago – Kamińska contributed.
What results from the research? – It turns out that young people are very patriotic, 78 percent are proud to be Polish or Pole. This is an important element of their identity. They put the family very high as a value. Among people aged 15-26, up to three -quarters put the family, not money, happiness or entertainment first – argued the representative of Y.Lovers. And she added that these priorities are visible not only in hard quantitative research. – There is a lot of content in social media, where young people present themselves with their parents or grandparents. 20 years ago it did not happen, it would be a shame – she noted.
Observations and numbers show that young people are proud of their parents and grandparents, values their experience and do not think that they know everything best. – As many as 70 percent claims that parents are able to teach them a lot; 66 percent that grandparents; And only 32 percent recognize that they are able to teach older generations. Therefore, the flow of knowledge still from the elders to the younger, not the other way around – argued Kamińska.
Traditional values, such as family, history and memory, are strengthened when the environment becomes less stable. And this is how it happened thanks to the Covid Pandemia 19 and war in Ukraine. Therefore, the research clearly showed that the action made sense that it would not hit the vacuum.
