Mesut Ozil Recorded in Mosque. Who Would Have Thought It?

The former Real Madrid and Arsenal midfielder, who comes from Turkey, declared a strong attachment to faith while still an active player. He is a practicing Muslim in his everyday life. He also made no secret of his sympathies for radical nationalist-Islamist political groups. Not long ago he got a tattoo of a grey wolf surrounded by three crescents – the logo of the Turkish far-right party MHP (Nationalist Movement Party). In the past, he also met with Turkish President Recep Erdogan, whom he publicly supported.

Now, Ozil has once again gained much applause among the Muslim community around the world. This is because he volunteered to help clean a historic mosque. A video has surfaced online showing the former footballer and another man vacuuming the carpets.

According to Turkish OdaTv, Oezil was seen at the Ahmed Pasha Mosque in the Uskudar district of Istanbul. The building is one of the most valuable in the city due to its extraordinary historical value and perfect integration into the landscape. It was built in the Ottoman Empire based on a design by Mimar Sinan. According to the station, Oezil has been associated with the local community for some time and regularly attends services there on Fridays. President Erdogan himself is also said to have visited the mosque frequently.
