Astronomical The beginning of summer falls on the so-called summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year. The sun is then at its zenith above the Tropic of Cancer. This year it will fall on Wednesday, June 21 at 4.57 pm Central European Summer Time. From then on, the days in the northern hemisphere will become shorter and shorter.

Beginning calendar years has a fixed and unchanging date – it is June 22. This year, we will welcome calendar summer a day later after the start of astronomical summer.
