Passengers using public transport in the Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolis must expect difficulties in purchasing tickets. There was a failure of the ŚKUP system, i.e. the Silesian Card of Public Services, which is the main carrier of tickets. According to the Metropolitan Transport Authority, validators, ticket machines and the mobile application do not work. Troubleshooting may take several days. “Old-type erasers” have been restored in vehicles, and pens have also been used.

The ŚKUP system failed in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. At that time, the portal, the Mobile ŚKUP application, the Dynamic Passenger Information System and the validators in card readers in vehicles stopped working.

– Work is underway to solve this problem and it may take up to several days – Łukasz Zych from the GZM press office told us. He added: – For now, we do not know what is the cause of this failure, we are considering several hypotheses, but we will inform you about it after solving the problem.

ŚKUP failure. Where to buy tickets

The Metropolitan Transport Authority in Katowice informed on its website where you can buy single and medium-term tickets and how to validate them. Single tickets can be purchased electronically in external mobile applications (SkyCash, mPay, moBilet, zBiletem.pl, JakDojade). In paper versions, they are available at: kiosks marked with the ŚKUP logo, Passenger Service Points and from drivers. Paper tickets can also be purchased at 12 solar vending machines. Mid-term tickets are available through external applications.

ŚKUP failure. Old-style validators are installed, pens are in motion

Paper tickets can be validated in traditional validators in buses. As announced by ZTM, “old-type validators will be installed in trams as an emergency, meaning that the ticket is validated by punching it. After using it, the passenger must additionally mark the date and time of validation with a pen.” What if there are no such validators in the vehicle? The passenger should write down the date and time of the start of the journey on the back of the ticket, which will be tantamount to validating the ticket.
