Police in Mexico say they’ve arrested a high lieutenant of the violent Metros faction of the Gulf drug cartel

MEXICO CITY — Police in Mexico mentioned Monday they’ve arrested a high lieutenant of the violent Metros faction of the Gulf drug cartel implicated in 23 assaults on police and 9 towards navy personnel.

The suspect was recognized as Hugo Salinas Cortinas, whose nickname “La Cabra” means The Goat. Police and the Mexican Military mentioned he was arrested Friday, however supplied no clarification for the delay in making the announcement.

Police mentioned Salinas Cortinas was caught with two weapons and 600 capsules, apparently fentanyl. He allegedly headed up drug and migrant smuggling alongside a stretch of the Mexican aspect of the Rio Grande river, also referred to as the Rio Bravo.

He allegedly operated in a territory comprising the cities of Camargo and Miguel Aleman, throughout the border from the Texas cities of Rio Grande Metropolis and Roma.

Native media reported {that a} lady recognized in 2021 as his spouse had been arrested in Roma, Texas after police discovered over $800,000 hidden in shoeboxes and backpacks in her dwelling.

The Gulf cartel has splintered into warring factions following the arrest and extradition of a few of its high leaders over the last decade.
