Security forces found the dismembered corpses of at least 34 people in two houses in the Mexican town of Poza Rica, Veracruz, local media reported. The remains were in plastic bags placed in coolers and refrigerators.
The Mexican daily La Jornada reported the gruesome discovery on Monday. The day before, the dismembered corpses of many people were found during a search operation of several houses in the north of the city by Mexican security forces, the army and the prosecutor’s office. The remains were wrapped in black plastic bags and placed in refrigerators and coolers.
Two women and one man were arrested in connection with the case, and several cars were seized. There is no information whether any charges have been brought against these people.

The state of Veracruz has not yet issued an official statement on the matter. According to the media, the dismembered remains belonged to at least 34 people, but the services have not yet confirmed the exact number of victims. The police are working to identify them.
The daily “La Jornada” reminds that since the beginning of the year there have been acts of violence in the city of Poza Rica, which – according to the authorities of the state of Veracruz – concern disputes between local criminal groups.
Since the launch of a controversial military counter-narcotics operation in 2006, Mexico More than 340,000 homicides and around 100,000 disappearances have been recorded in 2018, most of them attributed to criminal organizations, according to the French news agency AFP.
