Mexican military arrested Rosalinda Gonzalez Valencia on Tuesday, the wife of Nemesio Oseguery Cervantes “El Mencho”, one of the country’s most powerful drug cartel leaders. The detention took place in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
The woman was detained in the city of Zapopan. Mexico’s defense ministry described the event as “a significant blow to the financial structure of Jalisco’s organized crime.”
Gonzalez was prosecuted for many crimes. Evidence pointed to her involvement in “illegal financial operations of an organized crime group”. The woman was already arrested in 2018, but was released on bail a few months later.
One of Mexico’s most powerful criminals
Her husband, a former cop, “El Mencho” is the leader of the brutal New Generation Jalisco cartel, which outside of Sinaloa is the most powerful gang in Mexico, the Reuters Agency noted. The cartel’s influence spans five continents.
US authorities assigned $ 10 million for the capture of “El Mencho”. The group is accused of smuggling large amounts of drugs into the US, including opioid-based fentanyl. Over 93,000 people died in the United States in 2020 due to an overdose of this substance
