A mayor in Mexico has married a feminine alligator-like animal in a standard ceremony which is believed to carry luck to his folks.

Victor Hugo Sosa wed the caiman reptile referred to as Alicia Adriana as he re-enacted an ancestral ritual.

Native lore, or custom, calls the creature the “princess woman” and the mayor stated the pair “cherished one another”.

Onlookers clapped and danced in San Pedro Huamelula, a city of indigenous Chontal folks in Oaxaca state, southern Mexico, as they entered into holy matrimony.

Mr Sosa stated through the ritual: “I settle for accountability as a result of we love one another. That’s what is essential.
