Lopez Obrador said that American tourists and Mexicans living in the US are aware of the security of his country and noted the recent increase in the number of Americans living in Mexico.

Violence on the rise in Mexico

According to data published by the World Bank in 2020, the murder rate in Mexico is 28 per 100,000 people and was about four times higher than in the US. Last year, homicides fell by about 7 percent in Mexico, but the current government is on a sharp rise this year.

Only two of Mexico’s 32 regions were not assigned any level of travel risk by the US State Department. American police indicate that in addition to the kidnapping of four Americans, two women who wanted to sell clothes at one of the Mexican markets went missing at the end of February.

Women are also reported missing by authorities in the state of Guanajuato, which is struggling with gang attacks. Within a week, a group of six women went missing. On Saturday, 10 people were killed in an attack by armed gunmen on a bar in the town of Apaseo El Grande, a spokesman for the local prosecutor’s office said.
