On a beach in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur, an unexpected visitor has appeared – a giant elephant seal. The animal scared the family resting in the area, although he only wanted to relax by the ocean.
The incident took place at the beginning of the week in the municipality of Mulegé. Beach-goers noticed that there was a sea elephant lying in the coastal waters. Although at first they wondered if the animal was alive, after a while the giant mammal began to crawl ashore.
The animal had no ill intention
While sea elephants may appear slow, they can actually move surprisingly fast. The family resting in the area found that out – when the animal set off towards the shore, the sunbathers panicked, fearing that the mammal would attack. Fortunately, the elephant seal was only looking for a suitable place to rest.
Close encounters with sea animals often occur on the west coast of the United States and Mexico. On Monday, a video was circulated from San Diego, USA, where two young male Californian ear-plugs began to loudly fight each other on a crowded beach, scaring people resting there.
