MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s president stated Monday he’s going to ship a diplomatic notice to the US to protest Texas truck inspections which have prompted main delays at border crossings.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador claimed Monday that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s choice to implement further truck inspections was “very irresponsible” and politically motivated.

Mexico’s nationwide freight transport chamber stated Sunday that 19,000 vehicles had been delayed on the border. The freight affiliation claimed the delayed vehicles had been carrying about $1.9 billion in items.

It stated in an announcement that the delays had been “severely affecting” cross-border commerce.

“We’re going to ship a diplomatic notice at the moment to protest the Texas’ governor’s angle of placing up obstacles to free transit on our borders with none cause, however reasonably with political motivations,” López Obrador stated. “He’s utilizing the immigration problem to play politics.”
