Microsoft is to lay off about 11,000 people

Microsoft Corporation plans to cut about 5 percent of jobs, UK Sky News reported on Tuesday, citing sources. About 11,000 people are to be made redundant.

According to the media, Microsoft may reduce the number of e.g. employees of the recruitment department by up to one third. Reuters reported that Microsoft declined to comment on the emerging reports.

At the end of the first half of 2022, the company employed 221,000 people. full-time employees, including 122,000 in the United States and 99,000 in other countries. In October, the American news website Axios reported that the company had laid off fewer than 1,000 employees in several departments.

Microsoft is expected to report quarterly results on January 24.

The tech sector is cutting jobs

The Reuters agency pointed out that layoffs at Microsoft would be another such event in the US technology sector. Earlier, Amazon and Meta announced cutbacks in response to slowing demand.

CNN reported that because of the global economic outlook Amazon plans to cut over 18,000 jobs employees.
