The man jumped into the Baltic Sea from the pier in Międzyzdroje (West Pomeranian Voivodeship). After a while he disappeared under the waves. “He overestimated his abilities,” says the police. The mayor of Międzyzdroje tried to help the unconscious, 47-year-old man pulled out of the water. Unsuccessfully. The man died.
As sergeant Katarzyna Jasion from the District Police Headquarters in Kamień Pomorski informs us, the tragic situation took place on Friday just after 6pm on the pier in Międzyzdroje. A 47-year-old man jumped into the water, several meters high, straight from the pier.
After a while, the witnesses managed to get him out of the water. He wasn’t breathing. Until the arrival of the services, he was revived by random walkers, and then by the ambulance team. A total of 45 minutes were attempted to restore the man’s vital functions. Unsuccessfully. The doctor declared the death of the 47-year-old.
Police: waves covered him, disappeared under water
The police ruled out the participation of third parties and the suicide of a man. It turned out that the 47-year-old was on the pier with friends, and the whole situation was recorded. The film fell into the hands of functionaries. According to the police, the recording shows that the man wanted to swim in the sea.
After a while, the waves covered him and he disappeared under the water. It’s not for me to judge, but he overestimated his abilities. It ended tragically – says Jasion. The situation was classified – by the investigators – as an unfortunate accident. The man who drowned was an inhabitant of Międzyzdroje.
It turned out that Mateusz Bobek, the mayor of Międzyzdroje, was among the random people who took part in the resuscitation action. The local government member was a lifeguard for many years. A mining rescuer, who was on vacation by the sea, also tried to help the 47-year-old.
