Mietków Commune. Dead birds over the lagoon. Waters of Poland talk about a very virulent bird flu virus

Over 50 dead birds were found at the Mietkowski Reservoir (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). The commune authorities ask residents and tourists to refrain from swimming in the water and stay away from dead animals, and they appeal to poultry farmers to take precautions. In turn, Polish Waters say that the birds probably died due to a very virulent bird flu virus.

Dead birds were found on the coast and islands in the Mietkowski Lagoon from the Domanice side on June 14. More than 50 dead animals were found. The commune authorities issued a communiqué in this regard.

“Residents and visitors to the commune are asked to exercise extreme caution. Please do not touch or pick up dead animals, do not bathe in the lake, be careful when walking with dogs. In addition, all persons keeping poultry and other birds are asked to comply with the protection rules” – we read in the commune of Mietków in social media.

Highly pathogenic avian flu

The spokesman for Polish Waters confirmed in an interview with a journalist from “Gazeta Wyborcza” that actions were taken to remove dead birds from the shore. He says the reason is most likely due to the very virulent bird flu virus. – There are many indications that it is a highly pathogenic bird flu virus. Please do not touch or pick up dead animals, do not bathe in the lake, be careful when walking with dogs – says “Gazeta Wyborcza” Jarosław Garbacz from Wód Polskie.
