Poland’s decision to provide Ukraine with MiG-29 fighters is sovereign and does not affect the United States’ calculations regarding the supply of F-16 aircraft, said John Kirby, spokesman for the US National Security Council on Thursday. In his opinion, the delivery of American fighters would not be the best use of US funds.

“These are sovereign decisions of each country, and we respect those sovereign decisions,” US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said during a virtual press briefing, referring to Poland’s decision to transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.

He also stressed that Poland plays an extremely important role when it comes to military aid for Ukraine. He noted, however, that the announcement of the transfer of Polish fighters “will not change the calculation” USA on sending its own F-16s to Ukraine.

We heard what the president saidJoe Biden – ed.) on this subject: it is not on the table at the moment. And an announcement by another country that it will supply fighters does not affect or alter our sovereign decision on the F-16,” Kirby added. As he explained, according to the US authorities, the transfer of the planes would not be the best use of funds allocated to support Ukraine.
