The Belarusian airline Belavia has announced that citizens of Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen and Syria will not be accepted on board flights from Dubai to Belarus. The statement said that in October the number of flights to Minsk from the largest city of the United Arab Emirates increased from three to five per week.

The Belarusian national carrier stated in a press release that – in connection with the regulation – it will intensify document checks during passenger registration. Belavia has said it has “for many years not operated on scheduled or charter flights to Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen and Syria, and has never favored” the transport of migrants to Belarus.

The statement said that the planes between Minsk and Dubai were mainly filled by Belarusian tourists and “the number of flights starting from Dubai was minimal”. It added that in October “due to an increase in demand from tourist operators” the number of flights from Minsk to Dubai increased from three to five a week.

It was also said that due to “increased media coverage” the airlines had stepped up visa and migration controls in all directions.

A state of emergency at the border, journalists are not allowed to work

Since September 2, due to the migratory pressure in the border zone with Belarus, 183 localities of the Podlaskie and Lubelskie voivodships have been in a state of emergency. Under the ordinance of President Andrzej Duda, issued at the request of the Council of Ministers, the state of emergency was first introduced for 30 days, and then at the end of September the Sejm agreed to extend it by another 60.

Journalists have no access to the area under the state of emergency. When reporting on the events at the border, the media can use almost exclusively official government recordings and information.

Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński said on Saturday on the RMF FM radio that journalists from editorial offices that have nationwide coverage will be able to work in the border area on the terms specified by the Border Guard. Such a possibility is to be introduced by the amendment to the act on border protection, which will apply after the end of the state of emergency.
