He recalled that from the beginning of the migration crisis, the Church in Poland – through Caritas Polska, diocesan Caritas and the Delegate of the Polish Episcopate for Migration – “provides such assistance as far as possible.” – At this point, support for centers for foreigners is being implemented, support for Border Guard Posts where migrants and refugees are staying, Caritas Polska’s Tents of Hope are also being launched in the border parish, where volunteers will respond to the needs of the crisis on an ongoing basis – said the archbishop Gądecki.

Archbishop Gądecki asks for a fundraiser for migrants

Saying that the needs are much greater, the chairman of the KEP asked the faithful and all people of good will for a nationwide fundraiser – on Sunday, November 21 in all churches and chapels, through Caritas Polska – for migrants from the Belarusian-Polish border.

– The funds collected during the nationwide collection will be used to finance Caritas Polska’s aid activities in the border areas during the migration crisis and the process of long-term integration of refugees who decide to stay in Poland – Archbishop Gądecki informed.

He emphasized that the role of the Church is, first of all, to “shape attitudes consistent with the Gospel in a situation when it is necessary to show the visitors humanitarian and Christian sensitivity”. – Without prejudice to the security of the Republic of Poland and its citizens, they must show our solidarity – pointed out the hierarch. He said that “in the present situation, the message of the parable of the Good Samaritan sounds even more urgent and awaits universal fulfillment.” – Also in the field of the necessary social change in the perception of migrants themselves – he added.

At the end, Archbishop Gądecki called for “prayer for peace on the eastern border of Poland, for all migrants residing there, for the inhabitants of this area, for the state services, Border Guard, army, politicians, Poles, Belarusians”.
