A state of emergency on the border with Belarus

From September 2, in the border zone with Belarus – in 183 towns of the Podlaskie and Lubelskie voivodships – a state of emergency has been in force. It was introduced for 30 days under the ordinance of President Andrzej Duda, issued at the request of the Council of Ministers. On October 1, the president signed an ordinance extending the state of emergency for another 60 days after prior approval by the Sejm.

There are numerous restrictions in the area under the state of emergency. Journalists have no access there.

Government officials justified the need to introduce a state of emergency with the fact that Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime is waging a hybrid war using migrants and the Russian Zapad military exercises, the active part of which lasted from 10 to 16 September.
