Everything indicates that these are most likely illegal migrants – said Second Lieutenant Anna Michalska from the Border Guard. Further steps in this case are carried out by the prosecutor’s office. Earlier, border guards informed about a group of eight migrants who got stuck in a swamp in the Supraśl river backwaters. Seven of them needed to be taken to hospital. The prime minister also informed about the death of three people who “tried to cross the border illegally”. “In the morning I will take part in a briefing with the representatives of the services” – wrote Mateusz Morawiecki in social media.
“Today, on September 19, in the border region with Belarus, the bodies of three people were found. The prosecutor’s office is taking further steps in this case,” the Border Guard wrote on Twitter. The news was confirmed by the spokeswoman for the Border Guard, Second Lieutenant Anna Michalska. – On Sunday, the bodies of three people were found in three different border places with Belarus. There are indications that they are most likely illegal immigrants, but we will not provide any information at this stage. The prosecutor’s office is carrying out activities in this case, she said.
Prime Minister Morawiecki: three people who tried to cross the border illegally
Information about the finding of the bodies of three people was also provided on social media by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. “In the border region, the bodies of three people who tried to cross the border illegally were found. On the Belarusian side, the body of a woman” – wrote the head of the government on Facebook.

A group of migrants got stuck in the swamps
According to the information previously provided by Second Lieutenant Michalska, on Sunday around 10 a.m. in Pieńki near Michałów (Podlasie), a group of migrants got stuck in the swamps. – Eight illegal immigrants, five men and three women, got stuck in the swamps of the Supraśl river – said a spokeswoman for the Border Guard. She pointed out that these people could not get out of the swamp and were exhausted. – We had a huge problem to get to them – she emphasized, adding that in addition to border guards, soldiers, firefighters, policemen and a helicopter of the Polish Medical Air Rescue.
– Only border guards and fire brigades in waders approached them and took them from there to a dry place, from where they took their ambulances to hospitals. In total, 7 people were admitted to hospitals – five men and two women. One woman who did not require medical assistance is on the premises of the facility under the care of border guards – she explained. She said that these people were most likely Syrian citizens and that there was probably one Congo citizen among them. – We will establish their data – she said.
Migration crisis and state of emergency on the Polish-Belarusian border
As Second Lieutenant Michalska informed earlier, on Saturday the Border Guard recorded a record number of attempts to illegally cross the border on the Polish-Belarusian border. – There were as many as 324 of them. Border guards prevented all attempts – she emphasized. In addition, a spokeswoman for the Border Guard indicated that on the last 24 hours, border guards detained two people for helping to organize the illegal crossing of the Polish-Belarusian border. – It was a citizen of Uzbekistan and a citizen of Georgia – she said.
Since the beginning of September, the Border Guard has already recorded over 3.8 thousand attempts to illegally cross the Polish border with Belarus.
A state of emergency has been in force since September 2 in the border zone with Belarus, i.e. in part of the Podlaskie and Lubelskie provinces. Includes 183 localities. It was introduced for 30 days under the ordinance of President Andrzej Duda, issued at the request of the Council of Ministers. Government officials justify the need to introduce a state of emergency with the situation on the border with Belarus, where Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime is waging a “hybrid war” and the Russian Zapad military exercises.
