32 people who are allowed to enter Polish territory will not destroy Poland – said Father Alfred Wierzbicki on Friday in “Fakty po Faktach”, commenting on the drama of foreigners taking place on the Polish-Belarusian border. In his opinion, “we are dealing with great heartlessness.”
A group of foreigners live in Usnarz Górny (Podlaskie Voivodeship) on the Polish-Belarus border for over two weeks. These people are not allowed into Poland, the border is secured by the Border Guard and soldiers, and the police are also there. Poland and all the Baltic states – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia accuse Belarus of organizing the transfer of immigrants to its territory under the so-called hybrid war. In a joint statement the prime ministers of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia stated that the current crisis on the borders with Belarus was planned and systematically organized by the regime of Alyaksnadar Lukashenka. On the border, the Polish uniformed services set up their own campsite. It partially covers the area where there is a group of foreigners.
Clergyman about visiting the border
The guest of Friday’s “Fakty po Faktach” was Father Alfred Wierzbicki, who went to the border with Belarus that morning.
– Each of us should be there so that we would not become indifferent – he said on TVN24. He confessed that he had experienced “enormous helplessness” there. – These people are really hungry, cold, rainy, the weather is very unfavorable. There was nothing I could do effectively, but I wanted to be in a place where people suffer – he emphasized.
– Since I was there as a clergyman in the collar, I was asked what we could do. There is nothing we can do. But those who gave such orders can do anything – he argued. As he said, this is an exceptional situation. – 32 people allowed to enter Polish territory will not destroy Poland – he noted.
In his opinion, “we are dealing with some great heartlessness.” – You have to appeal to sensitivity. In every ethical system, in all philosophical and religious systems, there is the so-called golden rule. I would also suggest to those who are in power in Poland today to apply this rule. What if they were there, and it is not impossible at all. This is a human fate – said the priest.
In his opinion, the border should be opened to migrants who have been imprisoned between Poland and Belarus for two weeks. – Let’s not get anesthetized that our safety is at stake – he argued.
Fr. Wierzbicki: the human being is sacred, not the territory
Father Wierzbicki also referred to the words of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who recently stated that the authorities “defend Polish sacred territory”.
– I would prefer my country’s prime minister to speak a more modest language, not to refer to holiness. Especially since the human being is sacred, not the territory, he said.
