Apart from adult migrants, children are also trying to get to Poland. Exhausted and cold, they go to the Children’s Teaching Hospital in Białystok, among others. According to the management of this facility, young patients are in a difficult health situation. And doctors and medical staff have problems communicating with them.

On Monday, Mariusz Kamiński, Minister of the Interior and Administration, said that there are more and more cases in which migrants try to enter the territory of Poland. They are mostly people from the Middle East and Africa.

Migrant groups include not only adults, but also children. – Yesterday we detained a pregnant woman who had 13 children with her. These weren’t her children. It seems that they were separated from their families and forcibly pushed to the Polish side. Half of these children were hospitalized because they are ill with COVID-19, said Tomasz Praga, commander-in-chief of the Border Guard, on Monday.

Hospital director: the children do not know what will happen to them next

– These children found themselves in a tragic situation for them. They don’t know what will happen to them next. The border guards who bring them here are certainly a great support for them. They often stay with them and are on duty with them. So that the child has at least someone to talk to – said prof. Anna Wasilewska, director of the Children’s Teaching Hospital in Białystok. And she added that the little patients – who go to her hospital – are most often cold and have damaged muscles.

Every day, according to Mateusz Grzymkowski, a TVN24 reporter, this facility is visited by two or three migrant children. Doctors and medical staff face communication problems. Some of the hospitalized children do not speak any European language. Little patients who go to facilities in Podlaskie Voivodeship – as reported by Grzymkowski – are aged from one to 17 years.
