We are introducing a state of emergency on the border with Belarus after consultations with our services and neighbors from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, who were previously affected by the problem of the wave of illegal immigration. This does not mean, however, that we are ceasing humanitarian activities, “added Morawiecki.

Prime Minister on Polish aid for the Afghans

“We are aware that people traveling on the Belarusian side are not to blame for Alexander Lukashenka’s cynical game. From the first day of the crisis, we have been working to help those affected by the situation in Afghanistan,” the prime minister assured.

He recalled that Poland brought nearly a thousand people from Kabul, whom it looks after. “We also help those who are in Belarus, but we are obliged to act in accordance with the law, responsibly, without giving the Belarusian authorities a pretext to attack Poland and the European Union,” he said.

The prime minister also recalled that “the trucks sent by us with humanitarian aid have still not been allowed to enter Belarus”. “The note of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the willingness to provide material assistance in the form of tents, blankets and sleeping bags also remained unanswered” – added Morawiecki. “We are exerting pressure through diplomatic channels, but so far there is no good will on the part of the country in which there are groups of immigrants from the Middle East,” stressed the prime minister.

“We will not stop trying to provide assistance, if necessary, we will intervene in international organizations and cooperate with non-governmental organizations,” the head of government assured.

Migrants on the Polish-Belarusian border

A group of migrants has been wandering on the Polish-Belarusian border for over 20 days. They are prevented from moving to Poland by the Border Guard and the army. The area a few hundred meters from the place where the media and volunteers of non-governmental organizations are located, is additionally secured by the police. According to information from the Border Guard, there are 24 or slightly more people in the camp. The Ocalenie Foundation, whose employees and volunteers communicate with migrants through megaphones, reports that there are 32 people in the camp.

Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia accuse Belarus of organizing the transfer of immigrants to their territory under the so-called hybrid war. In a joint statement by the prime ministers of Poland and the Baltic states assessed that the crisis on the borders with Belarus was planned and systematically organized by the regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. They also called on the Belarusian authorities to stop activities leading to escalating tensions.

European Commissioner for Migration Ylva Johansson She stated on Friday that the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border is not a matter of migration, but part of Lukashenka’s aggression against Poland, Lithuania and Latvia in order to destabilize the EU. The press service of the European Commission told PAP that this was also the position of the European Union that had been previously expressed by EU foreign ministers.
