Sister Małgorzata Chmielewska, superior of the “Chleb Życia” community, spoke about the migrants wandering at the Polish-Belarusian border in “Fakty po Faktach”. – The solution is certainly not to prolong this crisis, which causes human suffering in the first place. You cannot look calmly at people’s suffering when we can help – she argued. She added that “there is no such situation in which it would be impossible to shake hands with another human being”.
A group of foreigners has been living on the Polish-Belarusian border, near the Polish village of Usnarz Górny, for several days. They want to enter the territory of Poland and apply for international protection. On the Belarusian side, they are blocked from a possible retreat by the local services. The crossing to the Polish side is guarded by soldiers and Border Guard officers.
The authorities in Minsk are accused of deliberately transferring migrants from Iraq and Afghanistan across the borders with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, which are also the borders of the Schengen zone, in order to put pressure on the European Union because of the sanctions it has imposed on the Belarusian regime.
Crisis on the border with Belarus. Sister Chmielewska: you must not look at suffering when we can help
Sister Małgorzata Chmielewska, superior of the “Chleb Życia” community, said in “Facts after Facts” on TVN24 that “there is only one answer to the crisis on the border with Belarus: we should first of all help these people”.
– The solution is certainly not to prolong this crisis, which causes human suffering in the first place. You cannot look calmly at people’s suffering when we can help – she argued. “I don’t understand why all mega-politics, very perverse, is reflected on the backs of this unfortunate group of refugees,” she added.
According to her, “it cannot be that the evil wins.” – At this point, the bad one wins, the real winner is Lukashenka (President of Belarus, Alyaksandr – editor’s note) at the expense of these unfortunate people. It is simply unacceptable to me and I think not only for me – said my sister.
According to her, “there are solutions that would allow these people to get out of (this) situation with dignity, and above all to save their life and health”.
Sister Chmielewska: There is no such situation in which it would be impossible to shake hands with another person
The superior of the “Chleb Życia” community also assessed that if we did not accept the migrants, it would mean that “we are bad people”. – There is no such situation, we also know it from history, in which you could not shake hands with another person, even risking your own life – she assessed.
She recalled that there were people who “saved Jews during the war risking their lives”. – Currently, there are also people who save other people from risking their lives, and not necessarily followers of the same religion, who are of the same race. There are plenty of such people all over the world – continued Sister Chmielewska.
– There is no situation in which politics would forbid me to shake another man’s hand. It just isn’t. It may cost me, but this is not the case. This is an evangelical command, there is no discussion here – she argued.
She noted that “of course, sometimes it requires heroism.” – Not everyone is made for heroism. But in this case, in the case of those (about – ed.) 30 people standing on the border, it does not require any heroism – she assessed.
