A humanitarian convoy with measures to help Belarus deal with the migration situation will depart from Poland in the afternoon. According to the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marcin Przydacz, the charge d’affaires of Belarus in Poland received a note with information about the proposed assistance and a question about possible additional needs. – We are ready to support the Belarusian side in solving this migration crisis – assured the head of the Governmental Agency for Strategic Reserves, Michał Kuczmierowski.
The bag hosted a joint conference of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcin Przydacz and President of the Government Strategic Reserves Agency Michał Kuczmierowski on the situation at the Polish-Belarusian border, where increased migration is observed.
As Przydacz said, “we are aware that migrants may find themselves in a difficult situation”. – They may find themselves in a situation where their basic needs cannot always be met urgently. That is why the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves, decided to provide assistance to the Republic of Belarus in connection with this situation, he announced.
The deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “according to our information, several thousand irregular migrants are on the territory of Belarus”. – We are aware that the vast majority of them are located in hotels and the conditions for their accommodation are quite decent. But if there are situations in which these migrants would have some basic needs not satisfied by the host state that invited them there, i.e. by the Republic of Belarus, then we are able to provide this help, he declared.
Charge d’affaires of Belarus in Poland received a note asking about the needs of migrants
He also said that “we have information proving that these people are legally staying in Belarus, they are accommodated there in hotels owned by Belarusian entrepreneurs close to the authorities, and then deliberately transported to the EU border to smuggle them”. – We are also aware that often the subject of these aggressive actions by Belarus are people who find themselves in a difficult situation with greater or lesser awareness – continued the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He added that the charge d’affaires of Belarus in Poland had received a note informing about the proposal to implement a humanitarian convoy by Poland. – We have all the things you need to offer, the trucks are ready for departure. But the note also asks the Belarusian side what additional needs would be necessary to meet, said Przydacz.
– Bearing in mind the humanitarian aspect of this crisis – although Poland is not the cause of it, but we are a democratic state, a state based on certain principles and values - we want to show some kind of readiness to support those people who find themselves in a difficult situation – added the deputy minister diplomacy. He also stressed that Poland would not change its policy towards the regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
President of RARS: three trucks will go towards the border crossing in Bobrowniki
The details of the humanitarian convoy were announced by the head of RARS, who indicated that the agency was established to secure equipment and materials in the event of emergencies. He reported that on Tuesday “a decision was made to make such equipment available from our reserves”.
– This equipment is currently packed on trucks. The three trucks will leave our warehouse center at 4 p.m. and will go towards the border. In the afternoon, in the evening, they should reach the crossing in Bobrowniki by about 6-19 pm – he said.
As Kuczmierowski said, the main equipment used in transport was to provide support in the event of a migration crisis. These are – tents, beds, blankets, sheets, various types of personal equipment and protective equipment related to COVID-19.
– The first convoy that we are sending today is full of technical means, but we are waiting for the decision of the Belarusian side. Because we are also ready to donate food, drugs and medical supplies. We are waiting for instructions – these are goods that require a fairly specific definition and Belarusian consent. We are ready to carry out all the necessary supplies and (…) we are ready to support the Belarusian side in solving this migration crisis – assured the president of RARS.
He recalled that “so far we have already made such an attempt on August 23”. – Then the first transport left our depot towards Belarus, where it was stopped at the border. We waited for the decision of the Belarusian side, but we did not receive it. Today we can see that this conflict is getting worse, so we are renewing our proposal – said Kuczmierowski.
