Activists found three people from Syria in the forest near the border with Belarus who needed help: a 50-year-old woman, a 25-year-old man and a two-year-old child. The adults were in a very serious condition – activists talk about hypothermia and dehydration. The Syrians were taken to a hospital in Hajnówka (Podlaskie Voivodeship). As the TVN24 reporter found out, migrants will apply for international care in Poland.

Karol Wilczyński from the “Granica” Group informed about the finding of three people. He reported that the Syrians had been found in a forest near the village of Szymki.

– The woman and the man were severely hypothermic and dehydrated. Fortunately, the two-year-old child was in good condition – reports Wilczyński in front of the TVN24 camera.

He adds that activists informed the ambulance dispatcher, but he – according to Wilczyński – refused to send an ambulance. Instead, as reported by the social worker, he wanted to send border guards and police to the site.

– In this situation, we decided to call doctors from the group “Medycy na Granicy”. They appeared on the spot after 40 minutes – reports Karol Wilczyński.

“Medical assistance was required only by adults. In the woman, Dr. Podkościelny found hypothermia with accompanying disturbances of consciousness – measurement with our thermometer showed that her body temperature was 34 degrees Celsius. She was also extremely dehydrated and exhausted. The two-year-old girl was fed and warmed by us, and she was given a teddy bear from us. Showing her warmth and support calmed her down considerably “- I report” Medycy na Granicy “in social media.

They will apply for international aid

Syrians were admitted to the hospital in Hajnówka on Sunday morning. As TVN24 reporter Adrian Zaborowski learned, the condition of adults has slightly improved, but they still require medical attention.

– For now, it is not known how long they will stay in the hospital. We do know that these people have signed powers of attorney and will apply for international protection in Poland – our reporter said.
