Bohdan Chmielnicki, Romuald Traugutt, Tadeusz Kościuszko or Emilia Plater – whose heroism was praised by Adam Mickiewicz, who wrote “this leader was of great power and fame”? This question, worth PLN 40,000, was answered by Mrs. Patrycja Burchardt from Gorzów Wielkopolski in the “Millionaires” program.

To win the main prize in “Millionaires”, you must answer 12 questions correctly. Each player has three lifebuoys at their disposal: ask the audience, half and half, and call a friend.

Patrycja started her game in Tuesday’s episode of “Millionaires”. During the game, she managed to answer six questions correctly, while using two of the available wheels. Then she heard a question worth PLN 40,000, which concerned a poem by Adam Mickiewicz.

“The leader was of great power and fame” – this is how Mickiewicz praised heroism:

A: Bohdan Chmielnicki
B: Romuald Traugutt
C: Tadeusz Kosciuszko
D: Emilia Plater

Mrs Patricia admitted that she did not recognize this fragment. After a moment of reflection, the participant concluded that the answer C would probably be correct, because Kościuszko is a hero of many nations. However, after checking this answer, it turned out to be incorrect.

“But this chief, though in soldier’s clothes, what beautiful virginal faces he has?”

The poem by Adam Mickiewicz, from which the excerpt in the question is quoted, is entitled “The Death of a Colonel”. It describes the last moments of the life of a captain of the Polish Army in the November Uprising. In the last stanza of the poem, Mickiewicz reveals that the colonel was Emilia Plater. In 1831, disguised as a man, she took part in the fights of the November Uprising, and then led her own unit of volunteers. So the correct answer to the question is D.
