Penalties for the lack of compulsory third party liability insurance have increased since Saturday. Their amount depends on the minimum wage. Some car owners can pay up to PLN 7,200 in fines.

From Saturday, July 1 the minimum remuneration for work increases from PLN 3,490 to PLN 3,600 gross. This is the second increase this year minimum wage. The change translates into on the amount of penalties for the lack of motor third party liability insurance. The penalty for the lack of civil liability insurance is calculated on the basis of the minimum wage.

Penalties for no liability upwards

From July, if a registered passenger car does not have third-party liability insurance for more than 14 days, then the additional fee is twice the minimum wage – PLN 7,200. Less, because PLN 3,600, will be paid by people if the car does not have OC for 4 to 14 days. Failure to pay the premium for three days may result in a fine of PLN 1,440.

For trucks and buses, the starting rate is three times the minimum wage. The maximum fee, in the absence of liability insurance for more than 14 days, is PLN 10,800.

Owners of other vehicles, e.g. motorcycles, will pay PLN 1,200 for over two weeks of idleness.


It should be remembered that the consequences of the lack of liability insurance can be much more serious than the additional fee. This will happen if we cause a collision or traffic accident. In such a situation, the Insurance Guarantee Fund has the right to apply for reimbursement of the costs of the compensation paid, and the costs may even amount to several hundred thousand zlotys.
