Minimum wage – rules

The Act guarantees an annual increase in the amount of the minimum wage not lower than the increase in the total prices of consumer goods and services forecasted for a given year. At the same time, if in the first quarter of the year in which negotiations with trade unions and employers’ organizations take place, the amount of the minimum wage is lower than half of the amount of the average wage in the national economy, this guarantee is additionally increased by 2/3 of the projected real growth rate GDP.

In addition, if in the previous year the actual price increase differed from the forecast, the act provides for the application of a correction mechanism (application of a verification index with regard to the amount of the minimum wage applicable in a given year for the difference between the actual and forecast price increase in the previous year).

In accordance with the provisions of the Act on the minimum remuneration for work due to high inflation the national lowest rises twice a year. – When inflation is above 5 percent, then the indexation of the minimum wage takes place twice a year, as it is this year, i.e. on January 1 and July 1 – recently explained the Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg.
