Finance Minister Andrzej Domański became the governor representing Poland in the World Bank. Information on this matter was published on the World Bank website. Until now, this function was held by the President of the National Bank of Poland, Adam Glapiński. The World Bank introduced the change pursuant to a resolution adopted by the government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
On Tuesday, the government adopted a resolution on the representation of the interests of the Republic of Poland in international financial institutions. According to it, the Council of Ministers entrusted the Minister of Finance, Andrzej Domański, with representing Poland’s interests, among others. in the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Development Association and the International Finance Corporation, which belong to the World Bank Group.
“This applies in particular to the appointment of the governor in these institutions. The Minister of Finance has also been authorized to appoint a deputy governor,” the Government Information Center reported.
So far, the president of the NBP, Adam Glapiński, has served as governor. The central bank in response to the government’s resolution pointed out that “resolutions of the Council of Ministers and orders of the Prime Minister are not sources of generally applicable law.”
However, the World Bank recognized the resolution adopted by the Polish government. Bartek Godusławski, deputy editor-in-chief of Business Insider Polska, drew attention to this. “It has been done. The World Bank has officially recognized the resolution of Donald Tusk’s government. President @nbppl Adam Glapiński is no longer the governor of Poland in the World Bank. This is a key step to dismissing Jacek Kurski. The new governor is the Minister of Finance @Domanski_Andrz” – wrote Godusławski on the X website (formerly Twitter).
The document with a list of governors representing individual countries, dated December 21, on page 27, mentions Andrzej Domański as the Polish representative.
Jacek Kurski at the World Bank
The President of the NBP, Adam Glapiński, as the Governor of Poland in the World Bank, nominated Jacek Kurski for the position of Alternate Executive Director of the Swiss-Polish Constituent Assembly in the World Bank Group in Washington. The former president of TVP took up the position in December 2022.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk informing about the adoption of the resolution on Tuesday, he said that it meant “the dismissal of Jacek Kurski and his recall from Washington to the country.” – He will no longer represent the Republic of Poland in financial institutions – said Prime Minister Tusk.
Jacek Kurski however, it is still listed on the World Bank website.
