Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski went to Kiev – Reuters reported, citing the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland. He pays his first foreign visit there after taking over as minister. Details of the visit are kept secret for security reasons.

Radosław Sikorski began his first foreign visit after taking up his position on Friday morning. Sikorski went to Kiev – the capital Ukraine. There he will meet, among others, his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba.

Just before 8 a.m. Polish time, the minister published an entry on the X platform (formerly Twitter): “First foreign visit; already on site,” wrote Sikorski. He also attached a photo showing Mikhailovsky Square in the center of Kiev.

Details of the visit are kept secret for security reasons. It is known that Sikorski will lay flowers at the Wall of Remembrance of those who died during the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine. He will also light candles under the cross commemorating the victims of the pro-Western Revolution of Dignity of 2013-14, known as the heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.

Radosław Sikorski was born in 1963 in Bydgoszcz. While still in high school, in 1981 he was the chairman of the Student Strike Committee during the so-called Bydgoszcz events. In the same year, he went to Great Britain, where he obtained the status of a political refugee.

In 1992, Radosław Sikorski became deputy minister of national defense in the government of Jan Olszewski, and he took part in, among others, in talks regarding Poland’s accession to NATO. In the years 1998-2001 he served as deputy minister of foreign affairs in the government of Jerzy Buzek. IN elections in September 2005, he was elected senator of the 6th term for Law and Justice. A month later, he was sworn in as the Minister of National Defense in the government of Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, and then also in the government Jarosław Kaczyński. He resigned in February 2007.

In the 2007 parliamentary elections, he got into the Sejm, running from the Civic Platform lists and obtaining 117,291 votes. After the PO’s electoral victory, he took over as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government Donald Tusk, he held this position until 2014. In the 2011 parliamentary elections, he again became an MP from the PO list, obtaining 91,720 votes. After leaving the government in 2014-2015, he served as Speaker of the Sejm. In the years 2010-2016 he was also deputy chairman of PO.

In 2019, Sikorski became an MEP for the first time – running from the lists of the European Coalition, he won 129,339 votes. In the European Parliament, he became chairman of the Delegation for relations with the United States, as well as a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairs, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Subcommittee on Security and Defense and the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the EU–EU Partnership.United Kingdom.
