The Ministry of Justice announced on Friday that Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar appointed six prosecutors demoted in 2016 to the positions of prosecutors of the National Prosecutor’s Office. Among them are some deputies of the only head of the prosecutor’s office separated from the position of minister – Andrzej Seremet.

Ministry of Justice announced on Friday on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that “the Prosecutor General has taken the first step towards restoring the dignity of prosecutors of the former General Prosecutor’s Office, who in 2016 were demoted by Zbigniew Ziobro to the lowest-level units.”

“At that time, a total of 124 prosecutors were demoted,” the ministry recalled.

“Actions aimed at restoring the honor and dignity of demoted prosecutors will continue.”

On Friday, the Prosecutor General appointed to the positions of prosecutors of the National Prosecutor’s Office: prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw Anna Adamiak, prosecutor of the Warsaw-Wola District Prosecutor’s Office Andrzej Janecki, prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw Artur Kassyk, prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź Krzysztof Karsznicki, prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Kraków Marek Jamrogowicz and prosecutor of the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor’s Office, Marzena Kowalska.

“Actions aimed at restoring the honor and dignity of demoted prosecutors will be continued,” announced the Ministry of Justice.

Of the prosecutors appointed on Friday, Jamrogowicz and Kowalska were deputies of the only head of the prosecutor’s office separated from the minister after 1990, Andrzej Seremet, whose term of office began in 2010 and expired in March 2016.

Reconnecting functions

Prosecutors Adamiak, Karsznicki and Janecki ran for the position of Prosecutor General. Janecki ran as a candidate twice – in 2010 and 2015. Seremet proposed him as his deputy. In turn, in 2015, Karsznicki was selected in a competition before the National Council of the Judiciary as a candidate to be presented to the president, alongside the other candidate selected by the then National Council of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Down choice Seremet’s successor in this manner, however, did not take place at that time, because the parliament resolved to re-merge the functions of the head of the ministry and the prosecutor’s office, and Zbigniew Ziobro he returned to the position of prosecutor general, which he previously held in 2005-2007.
